Artist's Description

The antique medical instruments are real, but the blood is fake. This image was taken at the doctors tent, during a civil war re-enactment. The beauty in this work is in the details. Once you start examining the details of the image, from the scalpels, bone saw, spreaders, cutters and extractors, to the stained cloth and the blood drops on the tools, you soon start to realize that the horrors of war were not limited to the battlefield.
